This project involved bringing a short animated story to life using a given audio track and I started with creating a small cast of fully rigged characters along with a variety of background and scene assets to build the world they live in. Over the course of a few weeks I worked on designing and refining each character so they could move and express themselves a bit more naturally. During this I was also working on backgrounds and props that helped me set the mood and make the world feel more real and cohesive.

Once I got my assets all made I moved on to storyboarding my short tale. I wanted the storyboards to be clear and descriptive so they could guide the flow of the animation, so as I worked through this stage I realized that some changes were needed to make the story flow better and keep the pacing smooth. This process was pretty involved since I had to tweak scenes, adjust their timing, and sometimes redesign assets because those little changes made a big difference in how the animations fluidly appeared overall.

Once I had all my characters and assets from Procreate made I had to take quite a bit of time to focus on the fine tuning of the editing process in After Effects. For me this stage involved delicate sequencing of the animation, fine-tuning the timing, and making sure everything felt lively and connected. However, the characters alone were pretty intensive and involved me carefully syncing their gestures, their expressions, and just the overall timing to bring them to life in a convincing and engaging way!

Project Name: A Tail of Two

Project Review:

This project was a really exciting chance for me to combine a bunch of different skills I had been practicing like character design, world-building, storytelling, and video editing into one cohesive piece. It also helped me reflect on how important it is to be flexible and open to changes along the way since even small adjustments can have a big impact on my final result. Overall it was really rewarding to see the story I imagined become a fully animated and living piece of work!
